About
Hey! I’m Tice, the maker of Map My Travels. You might know me as TravelingTice on YouTube! I started making YouTube videos about my travels back in 2017 and really loved the idea of making a video every day of my (then) bike tours.
Then I got to know another YouTuber called Matt Galat with his YouTube channel called "JaYoe" doing a similar thing, but then around the world! On his website he had quite a nice travel map where you could see exactly where he’s been and where he plans to go. You can find the map here.
Little later I decided I wanted to learn how to code. So I followed many courses online and even participated in a coding bootcamp in Amsterdam for 2 months, where I learnt all the ins and outs of how to create websites and web applications. During Covid I was very lucky to find a job as a programmer in the Netherlands!
On the side I kept working on my own projects, and Map My Travels became one of my hobby projects. I spent many weekends and evenings working on it, and got to a point where I became really happy with the result of how it looks and works! The only thing left to do at that point was finding people who would use it... I had to start promoting it, but for some reason, I couldn't get myself to do that.
2 years went by and I decided that I wanted to travel again as soon as possible. Setting my eyes on Taiwan because of its interesting culture and because I had a basic level of Mandarin Chinese. I also thought that as soon as I was traveling again, I might get "inspired" to start promoting this application. After waiting for 2 years, in March 2022, I was finally able to go to Taiwan!
It was amazing being able to travel again after so long, but I set high expectations for myself, and quickly became overwhelmed with all the things I wanted to do! I wanted to start my YouTube channel again, promote this travel map application again, and I also signed up for a full-time Mandarin course at a prominent university there. I had to take it one step at a time.
I spent most of 2022 finishing the course, and most of 2023 on my YouTube channel. But now I feel it is time to promote this application again and really find the users that can benefit from this application. I'm very excited to work on this again, as I learned over the years that coding is definitely one of my passions. So I look forward to making this application get the attention it deserves!
Because this project is still very new and doesn’t have a lot of users yet, I’d love to know what you think! How did you hear about Map My Travels? How do you like it? What would you like to create a travel map about and what features would make your maps even more awesome? Feel free to send me an email at tice@mapmytravels.app.
